Da sitzen sie nun auf der Couch, die beiden befreundeten Ehepaare aus Frankfurt/Oder, kommentieren zu reichlich Alkohol Dias vom gemeinsam verbrachten Urlaub und haben sich doch weder als Freunde noch als Paare mehr viel zu sagen. Auf halber Treppe ihres Lebens angekommen, haben die Mühen des Existenzaufbaus im wiedervereinigten Deutschland ihren Tribut gefordert und die Gefühle unter allerhand Routine begraben. Uwe schuftet bis in den späten Abend in seiner Imbissbude „Halbe Treppe“ und hat deshalb kaum noch Zeit für seine Kinder, geschweige denn für romantische Liebesbeweise für Frau Ellen. Die sehnt sich vergeblich nach Aufmerksamkeit und findet sie unverhofft beim gelangweilten Radiomoderator Chris, dessen Ehe mit Katrin längst nur noch eine leidenschaftslose Pflichtübung ist. Bald schon fliegt das romantische Liebesabenteuer auf, die beiden Paare schlittern in die Krise. Die Karten im Quartett werden neu gemischt, Bewegung kommt in die festgefahrenen Verhaltensmuster. So schmerzvoll der emotionale Schock für alle Beteiligten ist, so wundersam vitalisierend wirkt er sich doch auf ihr aller Leben aus.
Grill Point
Two married couples sit together on the couch in the former East German city of Frankfurt (Oder), commenting on the pictures of their shared holidays when in fact they don’t have much to say to say to each other anymore. Having climbed halfway up the steps of life, the effort of building an existence in the reunified Germany shows and their feelings are buried under the daily routines. Uwe works late in his grill point ‘Halbe Treppe’ and hardly spends time with his children. Nor can he romantically prove his love for his wife Ellen. She longs for attention and finds it unexpectedly in the bored radio DJ Chris whose marriage with Katrin has become a mere service of duty. Soon the romantic adventure leaks out and both couples slide into a crisis. The cards among the players are reshuffled and there is motion again in the gridlocked patterns. However painful this shock may be for all of them, the impact it has on their lives is astonishingly refreshing.

Ja ku janë ulur mbi divan të dy çiftet e shoqëruara nga Frankfurti (Oder), duke i komentuar fotografitë nga pushimi i përbashkët, por megjithatë nuk kanë shumë për t’i thënë njëri-tjetrit. Në gjysmë të shkallëve të jetës së tyre, përpjekjet për ta siguruar ekzistencën në Gjermaninë e ribashkuar dhe ndjenjat, janë varrosor nën rutinën e përditshmërisë. Uve punon deri natën vonë në rostiçerinë me emrin „Në gjysmë të shkallëve“ dhe pothuajse nuk ka fare kohë për fëmijët e tij, e lerë më për dëshmi romantike për dashurinë ndaj gruas së tij Elenë. Ajo ka mall për vëmendje dhe e gjen atë tek radio moderatori i mërzitur Kris, martesa e të cilit është shndërruar në një ushtrim detyrimi pa pikë pasioni. Shpejt aventura dashurore del në pah dhe të dy çiftet rrëshqasin në një krizë. Letrat në kuartet përzihen përsëri dhe kjo sjell lëvizje në shabllonin e ngurtësuar të sjelljeve të tyre. Ndonëse tronditja emocionale është e dhembshme për të gjithë të pranishmit, ndikimi i saj në jetën e tyre është çuditërisht freskues.

Na kauču sede dva bračna para iz Frankfurta (Oder), i komentarišu slike sa zajedničkog odmora, ali nemaju mnogo toga da kažu jedan drugom. Na polovini stepeništa njihovog života, pokazuju se pokušaji da se osigura egzistencija u ujedinjenoj Nemačkoj i osećanja su sahranjena u dnevnoj rutini svakodnevnice. Uve radi do kasno u noć u roštiljari koja sa zove „Na polovini stepeništa“ i nema gotovo nimalo vremena za svoju decu, a još manje za romantične dokaze ljubavi prema svojoj supruzi Eleni. Njoj nedostaje pažnja, i nalazi je kod radio voditelja Krisa, čiji je brak postao čista dužnost bez imalo strasti. Ljbavna avantura ubrzo izlali na videlo i oba para upadaju u krizu. Karte se ponovo mešaju donoseći nov razvoj u čvrstom šablonu njihovog ponašanja. Iako je emocionalni potres bolan za sve njih, njegov uticaj na njihov život je neobično osvežavajuć.

Director’s Biography
Andreas Dresen was born 1963 in Gera. His father was a theater director and his mother an actress. Dresen started shooting amateur films in 1979. From 1984 until 1985 he worked as a sound technician at the Schwerin Theater. After editorial training at DEFA Studio for feature films and director’s assistance for Günter Reisch, he then studied directing at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen „Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam. Apart from his film and TV works he stage-manages theatre works. He is also a member of the Academy of Arts of Berlin/Brandenburg. His first success as director was with ‚Nachtgestalten‘ (1998), for which he, inter alia, was awarded the best young director. ‘Halbe Treppe’ (Grill Point) won the silver bear at the Berlin Festival. For his several documentaries and feature films (Stilles Land, Halbe Treppe, Die Polizistin, Sommer vorm Balkon), he won several national and international prices. He just released his newest film ‘Wolke 9’ (Cloud Nine) in Germany.
